'How To Play' Pacific Rim: Extinction, with Geek & Sundry

– Tue, Mar 20, 2018 at 08:52:25 PM
Take a closer look at Pacific Rim: Extinction in this ‘How To Play’ video from Geek & Sundry! We’re really excited to show off more of the game mechanics, and to show things in motion.
Check out the Geek & Sundry video below, and let us know what you think! Which parts of the game are you most surprised or excited about?
This is a brief summary of all the major rules and mechanics, and how they play into a constructed game of Pacific Rim: Extinction. This is a great way to get a feel for the game during the campaign, but also the perfect primer for learning the game when it releases!
That’s not all though, as later this week a second video from Geek & Sundry in their ‘Game the Game’ series, which will take a more in-depth look at Pacific Rim: Extinction in the form of a play-through. We’ll be posting that when it’s available in a couple of days, so keep an eye out for more updates!
Don’t forget that when we hit the next stretch goal, Slattern will be added to the Escalation Bundle at no extra cost! And there are even more Jaegers and Kaiju to come after that.
Finally, Pacific Rim: Uprising hits theatres worldwide this week and we can’t wait to go and see it. We’re watching the first film again to prepare and we can’t wait to see Gipsy Avenger, Shrikethorn and all the other new Jaegers and Kaiju in action.
See you at the movies!
Conn-Pod and Ranger Card Overview + Ranger Pilot Cards Unlocked!
– Tue, Mar 20, 2018 at 08:28:05 AM
Ace! The Core Set now gets 4 new Jaeger Ranger Pilot Cards, including Amara Namani, added to it!
Why are they important? Well…
About Conn-Pods and Ranger Cards
To recap, in Pacific Rim: Extinction every Jaeger has a unique Conn-Pod. From here, Rangers are able to fully control their Jaegers every move. Special Drivesuits are used to interface directly with the Conn-Pod, through which the Rangers use cutting edge digital HUD and physical control technology to pilot the Jaeger.
This character sheet presents relevant game stats and customization slots, including:
1) Jaeger stats, including Speed, Skill, Power, Armor, and Points values.
2) Ranger slots, where the Ranger Cards chosen for this battle are placed.
3) Charge counter, where the current charge of the Jaeger is displayed.
4) Ammo counter, similar to the Charge counter, this displays the current Ammo.
5) Structure points, which show how much damage the Jaeger can take before it’s destroyed.
6) Upgrade slot, where an Upgrade Card is placed. There are many different upgrades that are used to modify and customise a Jaeger.
Every Jaeger must start the game with every Conn-Pod Slot having a Pilot Card. There are various levels of Pilots, each bringing their own level of skill and unique abilities to any Jaeger they jockey.
When Pilot Cards are lined up side-by-side you will be able to see how drift compatible the pilots are with each other. The more Drift Compatibility the Pilots have with each other the better their skill in combat.
For example, if there is 1 connection, the Jaeger gets +1 Skill.
Some pilots also bring with them unique attacks and abilities that can be used during the game.
The more pilot cards you have, the greater your ability to strategise and vary your force. Play once, swap the pilot cards for different ones and play again.
As Jaegers have Conn-Pods and Ranger Cards, so to do they have Upgrades.
Every Jaeger may start the game with one Upgrade Card. Some Upgrade Cards can be used by any Jaeger while others can only be used by a specific Jaeger.
Upgrade Cards give Jaegers additional power through improved stats or even special rules that can be used throughout the game.
Depending on your opponent, the other Jaegers you are fighting besides, or the scenario you are playing, you may take Pilot Cards and Upgrades that compliment each other or that fulfil a particular battlefield role.
One of the benefits of getting the expansions therefore is increasing the number of Ranger cards and Upgrade cards you have to customise your Jaegers with.
Coming Up: We'll take a look at Action Cards, the Kaiju Signature and Mutation Cards, as well as the different modes of play within the Pacific Rim: Extinction Core Set. Got a gameplay question? Ask us in the comments.

Stretch Goal £100,000 – Slattern Kaiju Expansion Set
Designated as the first Category V, Slattern was the largest Kaiju ever recorded by the PPDC when it first emerged from the Breach.
Slattern’s immense, scaled body is a massive arsenal of weapons, the most threatening being the three triple-crown tails capable of piercing Jaeger armour at a distance. With unrivalled size and strength, it was the most lethal Kaiju humanity had ever faced.
When we hit this stretch goal, we’ll produce the Slattern Kaiju Expansion Set and include it in the Escalation Bundle at no extra cost.
The set includes 1 Slattern – a miniature standing at over 75mm tall - 1 Kaiju Signature, 6 unique Action Cards and 2 Kaiju Mutation Cards.
When unlocked, Slattern will be included FREE with the Guardian Bravo and Raijin Expansion Sets in the Escalation Bundle for £40, meaning that you’ll be getting 3 expansions for the price of 2!
You’ll also be able to add-on the Slattern Expansion Set to your pledge for £20.
And then:
Once Slattern has been beaten, we'll reveal the next stretch goals, including a familiar, if not very pointy, face from the original Pacific Rim movie. Who could we be talking about?

Like Guardian Bravo, this Expansion Set will be available to add-on for £20 when we unlock this goal.
But wait, there’s more…
The Guardian Bravo and Raijin Expansion Sets can also be purchased together in the Escalation Bundle for £40, which will also include the Slattern Expansion Set when we unlock its stretch goal – meaning you’ll be getting 3 expansions for the price of 2!
You can add-on it now , by increasing your pledge by £40, and break us through that stretch goal and on the way to Slattern!

The set includes 1 Slattern – a miniature standing at over 75mm tall, 1 Kaiju Signature, 6 unique Action Cards and 2 Kaiju Mutation Cards.
You’ll also be able to add-on the Slattern Expansion Set to your pledge for £20.
We hope you think Slattern is as awesome as we do – but before we get to it, there’s another goal to hit first.
£95,000 – BONUS Jaeger Rangers pilot cards, including Amara Namani
If we hit this stretch goal we will upgrade the Pacific Rim: Extinction Core Set with FOUR new Jaeger Rangers pilot cards, including Amara Namani.
Some pilots also bring with them unique attacks and abilities that can be used during the game.
The more pilot cards you have, the greater your ability to strategise, vary your force and the greater the re-playability - simply mix and match different Rangers to try out different tactics!
One of these new pilots, Amara Namani, you may have seen feature in the latest Pacific Rim Uprising trailer… avoiding spoilers, she is a main character in the story and one we cannot wait to bring to the battlefield.

With 3 weeks left of Pacific Rim: Extinction on Kickstarter we’ve got plenty of updates coming up, particularly around the gameplay and mechanics.
The designer (or maybe designers) are set-up to do a live chat and answer your gameplay questions, our gameplay videos will be released, including one with a special partner of ours that we cannot wait to show off, and we'll have an update or two that explains more about the game.
Until then, stick with us and let us see if we can't hunt down Slattern!
Guardian Bravo and Raijin Unlocked!
Last night you raced through the final stages of the £90,000 goal, unlocking not just the Guardian Bravo Expansion Set and all the cool game gubbinz inside, but you also funded Raijin, a monstrous Kaiju from Pacific Rim: Uprising.
These expansion sets are available individually for £20, but you can also purchase them together for £40 in our Escalation Bundle, which will also include Slattern when its unlocked - that's three for the price of two!
Feel free to add it on now in the hunt for Slattern.

Gipsy Danger Expansion added for FREE to all £65 pledge levels.
– Sun, Mar 18, 2018 at 04:18:35 AM
The Pacific Rim: Extinction Kickstarter is in full swing and we’ve been blown away by the support and the level of backing. We’ve received over 1,000 comments and messages of support and feedback, which we really appreciate.
What we’d like to do in this update is address some of that feedback and continue to make this the best version of the game it can be. We’ll start off with the content of the Extinction (£65) pledge level.
At the launch of the campaign, the £65 Extinction pledge level included the core set (Gipsy Avenger & Shrikethorn + all rules and other components), as well as the Saber Athena and Hakuja expansions, each of which adds another 75-115mm miniature, with more upgrades, rangers, and mutations. A single Jaeger or Kaiju has a huge impact, both visually (thanks to the large size and painted quality), and in terms of gameplay. We believe this pledge level offers awesome game content at good value.
However, we have been listening to the feedback from you, the backers, and we’ve heard that you would like to see more value added into the current rewards. We’ve also heard that many are looking forward to seeing the legendary Jaegers and Kaiju of the first film. Taking this feedback on board, we are super excited to announce a change to both Extinction (£65) pledge levels.
All backers who pledged at either of the Extinction (£65) pledge levels will now receive the newly unveiled Gipsy Danger expansion, at no extra cost.
That’s right, all backers at the £65 level will be getting Gipsy Danger to deploy into battle against the Kaiju! The Gipsy Danger expansion comes with ranger cards, upgrades, charge/ammo markers, and of course Gipsy Danger’s Conn-Pod profile sheet.
This machine is seriously impressive. Gipsy Danger is a true Jaeger legend, and a shining beacon of humanity's strength and courage in the face of insurmountable danger. A veteran fighter, Gipsy Danger’s name has been etched into history for her heroic actions during the Kaiju Wars.
Gipsy Danger uses highly-effective I-19 Plasmacasters that cauterize wounds on impact, preventing the spread of dangerous Kaiju Blue in battle. Gipsy Danger can also deploy a GD6 Chain Sword to quickly adapt in combat when engaging in close quarters.
Gipsy Danger is the first expansion featuring content from the original Pacific Rim movie. We hope you’ll make great use of her chain sword to tear up some Kaiju! Only as a last resort, of course.
That’s it from us for now – we’re making good progress to unlocking Guardian Bravo and seeing more of the Jaegers and Kaiju from the original Pacific Rim, so please help us spread the word.
We hope you like the changes to the campaign that we’ve made and the added value that you are now receiving.
